WALKABLE ANGLE TEST

The WALKABLE ANGLE-TEST is a diagnostic tool used to evaluate the angle of gait of the feet. The examination of the position of a subject's feet very often neglects the angle of gait.

This is an essential examination because a slight difference in balance (or walking) angle can underline:

  • a different pressure distribution on the two feet, with possible diversity in the position of the heels (a straight and a valgus heel, or one foot that is more valgus than the other, etc.);
  • that the feet must be asymmetrically placed to guarantee comfortable body balance.

This condition underscores a possible difference in length of the lower limbs; therefore, it will be useful to carefully consider even just the difference in heel position.
A difference in leg length is compensated by regulating the angle and position of the feet to achieve their equalisation (cause-effect).
Any corrections to the foot position must be evaluated after compensating the difference in leg length!

How to use:
Ask your patient to simply stand inside the platform, and to place both heels against the "heel-support". Remind the patient to keep looking straight ahead and to assume the most comfortable position with the forefoot pointing outwards as required.
Measurements are taken considering the mid-section line passing through the 2nd and 3rd metatarsus.
